Please join the Education and Training Department at Bright Horizons in continuing to support teenagers in a shelter in Texas through the Adopt a Bright Space program. Bright Spaces is the flagship program of the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children (www.brighthorizonsfoundation.org), creating warm, comforting family play areas where children and youth in crisis can grow, learn, and play.

Adopt a Bright Space was the brainchild of Jim Greenman, who passed away in April 2009. Jim was the Chairman of the Bright Horizons Foundation Board and the leader of our department, and most importantly, he was committed to making the world a better place for all children. Members of the Education and Training department adopted this Bright Space in Jim’s memory and as a continuation of his work.

Through Adopt a Bright Space, we are supporting an existing Bright Space and keep it exciting and bright for the children and youth who use it. While the members of the Education and Training department are spread across the United States, we joined together to adopt the Bright Space at the Dallas Life Foundation in Texas (www.dallaslife.org). Life in a shelter typically means living in close quarters, and teens especially need autonomy and some time on their own. With your help, we are developing a designated area for teenagers within the existing Bright Space, where they will feel comfortable gathering to enjoy games such as foosball and ping pong, play and listen to music, read, draw, and just “hang out.” In our initial fundraising effort we raised over $7000! We are continuing to ask for donations so that we will be able to keep the room supplied with equipment and art supplies. . All donations of any size are greatly appreciated. Just click the “Pledge Now” button and you will be helping to create a special place for teenagers at Dallas Life, where they will be relax and connect with each other. Your gift is a charitable contribution, and you will receive a receipt for tax purposes. When you pledge your support, we also invite you to leave a comment.

To help you understand the depth of homelessness in this country and its effect on children,
please take a look at the following facts:

• Children and families make up the fastest growing segment of the homeless population.
• The average homeless child in America is only 6 years old.
• One third of homeless teens have been a first-hand witness to a major crime.
• More than 1.35 million American children will experience homelessness this year.

Many heartfelt thanks!

Linda Whitehead, Helen Zarba, Barbara Levinson, Diane Rollo, Jane Gibbons, Jeanne Bowlby, Kathy South, Linda Cirone, Maggie Stanley, Mary Bresadola, Pam Cross, Robert Torrez, Jane Dacey and Susan Brenner

If there's a heaven, Jim is there--and smiling down on the wonderful work you are doing in his name.

You guys are taking Jim's dream of creating an Adopt a Bright Space program from a great idea to reality. He would be so proud of "his team" but somewhat embarrassed (although secretly pleased) that it was being done in his name!

This is a wonderful memorial for Jim, and I am happy to make a contribution. Although my entire professional commitment has been to young children, it is essential that we show concern for all ages within the family. This program should help to bring older as well as younger children under the umbrella of concern of Bright Horizons Family Solutions.

What a great project! I love places where teens can just hang out and be teens. Imagine how much fun they will have in this space and how wonderfully normal they will feel. So happy to help out.

I am so glad to know you guys are doing this and proud to be able to support your efforts. I still miss Jim every day but am filled with joy every time I see his work reflected in my daughter's center, e-family news, throughuot the E&T team, and beyond.

Jim's memory will certainly live on in our hearts and this project will continue Jim's life long work in others. The teens have been our forgotten children. The children who are must vulnerable with their friends and their discretionary time. At this time in teen lives, great environments, activities, and a time to "hang out" in a positive enviroment will make the difference in the path they choose in their journey of life. BRIGHT SPACES - BRIGHT FUTURES....
