Mission Statement

The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children is a nonprofit organization focused on brightening the lives of children, youth, and families in crisis. The Foundation believes that we can make the world a better place by engaging Bright Horizons’ employees, clients, families, friends, and community partners, and their passion for meeting the needs of all children. We do this by creating comforting places for children in crisis to grow and play, strengthening their families, supporting our communities, sharing our knowledge, and encouraging others to join us in making a difference.

History

The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children was founded in 1999 to fulfill the mission to "make a difference in the lives of children and families where we live and work". Through the Foundation, Bright Horizons supports nonprofit organizations with programs for children and families.

At Bright Horizons, we have a wealth of knowledge about children and families. Through the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, we can extend the reach of our knowledge and commitment far beyond the walls of our centers, schools, and programs for enrolled families to at-risk children and families in the communities where Bright Horizons Family Solutions employees live and work. We do this by supporting programs that instill a positive self-concept and self-esteem in children; provide children and families with nurturing; creative environments; and support and facilitates the development of strong families.

We support a range of programs that serve children and families through volunteers, grants, and resources. Our signature program, Bright Spaces®, play spaces that brighten the lives of homeless children and families in crisis, serves over 7,000 homeless children each month.

A Letter from our CEO and President to Friends of the Foundation

Dear Friends of the Foundation,

Bright Horizons Family Solutions is committed to making a difference as we care for thousands of children in our centers everyday. When we started the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children in 1999, our hope was to aid our mission of "making a difference in the lives of children and families and in the communities where we live and work." In the past several years, we have accomplished more for children than we ever thought was possible, both in our centers and in our communities.

Bright Spaces, our flagship program that creates play rooms for children in homeless shelters, has grown quickly. Our clients, other nonprofits, and even city governments such as Nashville and Philadelphia, have partnered with us to create Bright Spaces and help brighten the lives of thousands of homeless children. We have more than 200 Bright Spaces now open across the country with 30 more in development!

Through the Foundation grant programs, we have been able to give thousands of dollars to deserving nonprofit agencies that our employees support with their time and talent.
